aithneThe first book of Imryne, of House Melrae is called War Child. This is the cast of characters. I'll post a link to it at the top of every story; readers are likely going to need it.
Dramatis Personae and Reference
1. Time
Day: not to be confused with a surface day, a below-day (or ilit) is 27 hours long, divided into three nine-hour periods.
Strand: ten ilit, with the first day reserved for public ceremonies and rest for all but the lowest of slaves.
Skein: Ten strands, with the first day of the strand being a feast and high ceremony day.
Cycle: Five skeins, with the largest of the ceremonies occurring on the first day and again at the midpoint of the cycle. A cycle is about 1.5 surface years. (I note all ages in surface years. Imryne, for example, is 101 cycles and about 152 years old.)
1. Houses
The city of Fanaedar is run by twelve houses that serve on a council; supposedly, common affairs are decided by voting. In reality, the top three houses control the voting of the council, and the other nine scrabble for what crumbs of power are left over. As of the beginning of Imryne's story, there are fifty-one houses; I will only list those of interest.
