Update on the network situation
Sep. 30th, 2004 10:00 amYep, things are pretty much fucked. I discovered last night that the transistion instructions that my ISP sent me are incomplete. My DSL modem is evidently in a state of utter denial about the world and isn't responding on any of the IPs I was guessing it might be on, and I'm not entirely certian that it even *has* a telnet interface. (I mean, it must. But I've never used it.)
I'm calling this morning to cancel my DSL, and then to sign up for cable. Creative and all of the services it has on it is down for the duration; I need to talk to Bryan about when I might be able to get the machine down to his house, but we're looking at probably a week of downtime total. If you need to email me, do so at my gmail address. (Same username as my regular email address at gmail.com.) And I'm not going to have net access in the evenings until the cable gets installed.
(And I just finished a new chapter last night, and nobody can read it. Sigh.)
I turned off both of the servers upstairs this morning. Wow. So quiet.
I plan to move the one server and recycle the rest at RE-PC unless anyone has a use for about four former Boeing Surplus machines. And there will be space in my server closet, once more.
