It's a good thing I did laundry...

I was wearing an Unfortunate Clothing Combination yesterday.

1. Overalls, which are loose.
2. Underwear, which is satin.

This led to wacky hijinks while walking down the street involving attempting to discreetly get my underwear back up on my hips. And then not-so-discreetly attempting to do so. And then just giving up and full-on hitching up. Fortunately, overalls are constructed in such a way as to make this exceptionally easy.

I'm back to novel-writing, and made some serious progress on the scene I'm working on. I'm going to have to revise this one a lot, though--I don't think it has quite the emotional resonance that it needs to yet. It's the stort of meaty stuff I absolutely love.

I'm dead on my feet this morning, despite getting plenty of sleep last night. Time for coffee.

conscious decisions

Tonight, among other things, I am doing a book purge.

I've filled nine paper bags with books--books that I've read once, books that I have multiple copies of, books that I didn't like very much, books that were given to me as presents and I've only kept for that sake. (And asking myself the tough questions, like do I really need to keep all the works of Sherri S. Tepper (yes) and Margaret Atwood (no! away goes Oryx and Crake and The Blind Assassin)?

And then I come to the tough questions.

Like, is it worth it to keep this collection of magazines?

These are sort of lifestyle porn magazines. (house magazines, mostly) I've kept them on the pretext that some day, I will end up doing the pretty things depicted in these pretty magazines.

And, well...really, not so much.

Away they go.

And now, I have a whole *shelf* free that I can use for a new and growing category of books: books that are directly relevant to the stuff I'm writing.

And I've managed to empty both of the short bookcases from downstairs, which means I can get rid of both of them.

I like Stuff Purges. They make me happy.
