the reporter had fun with this one.
Oct. 6th, 2006 10:30 amThe car didn't have to be fancy.
1990s Subarus were apparently his favorite, along with Honda Civics and Accords.
Investigators say the 23-year-old Seattle man they're calling King County's most prolific car thief ever would simply glance around, pry the car's window, force the ignition with a screwdriver and take off.
Over six months, they say, Liam Moynihan did it at least 136 times. On average, five times a week. Seattle police say the likable young man has a girlfriend and a meth habit, lacks a job and a car -- and really likes to drive.
'A nice kid' with a bad habit of stealing cars
Okay, the kid's a tweaker. But evidently, he's a charming one. And he did trash the cars of the people he stole from. But there's something sort of naively good-natured about this kid's actions. He wasn't selling them to chop shops, he wasn't using them to commit other crimes (unless you count the meth use), he wasn't just going though them and stealing stuff.
He was just, you know, driving around.
It's almost sad he's to the point where they're going to throw him in jail for a few years; i'm guessing that good-naturedness won't survive prison.
