The Promise
Mar. 14th, 2007 09:57 amBryan had gotten The Promise from Amazon Unboxed last week, so we watched it last night. He got it because, and I quote, "It's a very Kris movie."
And it so is.
It's beautiful, colorful, and deeply, deeply silly in the best tradition of Hong Kong martial arts movies. It's less fight-y than most of those, though, and it has unpredictable dieties and the Most Stylish Bad Guy Ever (war fans. Seriously. The guy uses war fans.).
It is nonsense, but it is pretty nonsense. And worth watching for the main bad guy alone. Though I have to say that his "motivation", such as it is, caused me to laugh a lot when it was revealed.
So, yes. Don't go expecting anything other than silliness and prettiness.
