I am here!

Stood in line. Stood in line. Stood in line some more. Then was on a six-hour flight with a screaming child. However, it wasn't a total loss. I read the entirety of A Feast For Crows and Wings to the Kingdom.

I got there, and the airport smelled like a combination of jet fuel and orchids. It's been raining here today. Hard. As in, I had to sit down with a map and plan a new route to my condo, because the main route was all kinds of flooded. It's like Seattle here right now, only like forty degrees warmer. I have a snorleking trip planned for tomorrow morning--cross fingers for calm waters and maybe even a little sunshine.

The car place was all out of compact cars, so they gave me a convertible. It is the New Hotness! If the sun comes out (and it should), this should be a lot of fun. I've never driven a convertible, and I haven't ridden in a convertible for ages. I may actually do the road to Hana all by myself, especially if it gets dry next week. (Right now...not so much fun.)

I should go to the crocery store I passed on the way here, then go fall over.

[oh, yes, and I nearly didn't get here tonight. Our first pass by the airport saw us getting down to 100 feet above he runway and suddenly gaining 30 knots of speed dur to a gust of wind. Second time was the charm, but we were going to get diverted to Oahu until the weather calmed if the plane didn't make the second landing.

When we touched down, the whole plane burst into applause.]

The road to Hana is really pretty. Have they gotten the bridges fixed after the earthquake? Maybe it was just one of the bridges. Anyway, even if you don't go all the way to Hana, there's some nice little waterfalls and stuff along the way.

There's a little Greek restaurant in Kihei that's really good -- you eat outside on this patio kind of place and there are a couple of cats that wander around. :) I can't remember what it's called, but it's right on Kihei Road and it's quite good. At least it was a couple of years ago.

Sigh... Maui! I love that place. Hopefully it will stop raining. It probably will. Enjoy!

That Greek place is like right around the corner from me! i have my eye on it for dinner tomorrow, if I don't end up in Lahaina instead. Depends on what I feel like after I do the snorkeling tour tomorrow. (eee! Turtles! Fishies!)

Right now, it looks like it's going to shower most of the time I'm here, but I am a Seattleite. When have i ever let a little rain stop me?

p.s. I'm sitting on my lanai, listening to the waves. The surf's pretty high, so I can hear it going swoosh all the way out here.

Oh! It's just the one bridge, and it's on the other side of Hana, where I wasn't planning to go anyway. :)

Oh, that's good! I wasn't entirely clear on which bridge it was. We didn't go all the way to Hana -- we turned around about halfway because we'd gotten a late start thanks to lingering over a long lunch at Mama's Fish House in Paia (sooooooo worth it though) and we didn't want to be driving on that road after dark.

Have a great time snorkeling! I hope you see turtles. And dolphins. And you *could* see a whale or two -- usually they see the first ones of the year right around now. :)
