There is a heck of a lot of paper involved in submitting things places.

I need to pick up a couple of reams if I'm going to continue to do this.

(Getting three stories ready to send out; I tried to submit a story electronically, but it failed, i think. I'm trying to collect me some rejection letters!)

While it's nice that so many places are starting to take electronic submissions, I still really love the whole process of printing out clean copies, signing the cover letter, putting stamps on the envelopes, etc. I am such a geek. :) Plus, I like filing away the rejection slip in my "rejection slips 2006" folder -- I actually print out rejection (and acceptance!) emails and put them in the appropriate folders because I just get a much better sense of accomplishment that way.

BTW, do you read [livejournal.com profile] youmustsubmit? It's a nice place to get a little support in the whole sending-stuff-out endeavor, though it's been kind of quiet lately.

Cover letters are nerve-wracking when you don't have any publication credits. :) But I'm liking the process, though I need more paper, and paper clips, and envelopes...

I don't read you must submit, but I will now!

Just make the cover letter short and sweet! The submission itself is what counts. :)

I think I mainly like the process because it gives me an excuse to purchase office supplies...

hee! one reason I love working in a library is that most of the people I work with (librarians, staff, library school students) have office supply fetishes. They all GET it when I get excited about a new kind of paper clip or a particularly nifty pen. :)

Congrats on the amazingly positive attitude about rejection letters. You should collect them, they are in their own right a form of accomplishment -- however, don't count them too closely. Just a caution. I remember when another friend of mine was trying to get her novel published...she purchased a case of paper and those really big envelopes so she could send off chapters to publishers and such. It too seemingly forever, but she got someone to publish it for her. You can buy it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Paintbrush-Devils-Toolbox-Whitney-Lakin/dp/1591291615/sr=11-1/qid=1165248858/ref=sr_11_1/002-8026824-2714426 and while you're at it, you could check out her lj [livejournal.com profile] whitney_lakin she doesn't talk much on it about writing...but she's a cool ass chick who speaks like 5 languages and lives in New Orleans.

Yeah, getting books published is a different ball of wax than getting short stories published. I'll be going through that process sometime, but for now I'm trying to collect my fait share of rejections (and maybe a couple of publication credits).

Kind of unrelated... But I was wondering if you still had work that needed to be done (I remember talking to you briefly about it before you left for Hawaii).

And good luck with the submitting! I always like what I read of your writing. =)

Yes, yes, I do. If you've got the time, I have a library that needs some TLC. :)

Awesome! =) I've got some time this week... What about Thursday? If you guys are still having the TV night, I could just hitch a ride over with Duck and do some work then (if not, I could always steal/borrow my mom's car and head over). I miight also have time in the evening on Sunday.
