The dogs love me.
Usually, Pip can take or leave me; she likes guys, and while I am convenient as someone to snuggle, a dispenser of crate cookies, and someone to open the door when she wants out, I'm not, you know, hers. Boone, by contrast, adores me despite the fact that I make him do silly things like sit and stay and lie down.
Well, being the only human in the house means that the adoration of two puppies is focused...on me.
A while ago, I had a cat on my lap, one on the arm of the couch, and a dog on either side of me. Right now, I have Boone on my legs, and Pip at my hip. I sit on the floor and they're both trying to climb into my lap. Pip asks to be picked up and snuggled. Boone has decided that keeping me in sight is a Good Thing.
The cats want love, too. Selena is especially insistent; she comes us and camps out on my lap when I'm writing. Juniper has his usual nightly lovefest. Esme, when she can catch me at the right time, goes all crazy-drooly when I pet her. Greebo, on the other hand, doesn't care. I'm not his human, i can pretty much go hang unless I'm near the treat box.
Pip is also attempting to tell Selena that she's not the boss of her. Selena, of course, knows full well that she is. It goes sort of like this:
Pip: *jumps up on the couch near Selena*
Selena: *hiss*
Pip: Eh? whazzat?
Selena: *ears laid back, hiss, pop-PUNCH!*
Pip: Whoa, lady.
Selena: *punch punch punch*
Pip: *grrr-RUFF!*
Selena: *hissssssss* *punch!* *yowl*
Pip: *goes into a diatribe of barking and odd howling noises*
Selena: *Yowwwlllllll!*
Kris: *comes over, scruffs puppy, apologizes to Selena*
Boone, too, will "talk" to the cats, in an evident attempt to imitate their meows and yowls. Weird dogs are taking Feline as a second language.
Bed, now.
