I feel betrayed.
Jun. 30th, 2006 02:59 pmAfter sampling a number of light yogurts, I'd settled on Yoplait as the best-tasting of the bunch. They do have some more sugar in them than the other brand I buy (Fred Meyer store brand, which has nothing even remotely like real sugar in it) but I figured it was a good trade-off for light yogurt that tastes entirely non-objectionable.
Now, I *thought* that Yoplait was sweetened with fructose and aspartame; at least it was the last time I checked. But I was having some yogurt for breakfast this morning, and was perusing the ingredient listings, as I tend to do when it's before 9 AM and I haven't quite gotten up the gumption to pick up my book yet. I checked out the ingrdient label...
...and discovered that it's sweetened with high fructose corn syrup.
GAH.
Ah, well, I will finish this batch of yogurt and go back to my store brand. Or, better yet, go back to getting plain and flavoring it with stevia. It's kind of a pain in the butt, as well as not being particularly portable, but at least that way I'd know what I was getting.
Bah, Yoplait with your attractive smaller serving size (though you get the same 100 calories in six ounces as in eight ounces of store brand) and your tasty cherry flavor.
[For those who don't know, I consider high fructose corn syrup a pretty extreme nutritional evil, and have made an effort to mostly evict it from my life. I am also a compulsive label-reader. Of everything.]
