About six years ago, I bought a clock radio with a CD player.
I'd woken up to NPR almost every morning since I'd arrived at college in 1992. I liked NPR. The voices were soothing, and it was nice to feel informed about the world before I got out of bed.
But in 2002, a year or so after the WTC bombings, I realized that listening to NPR was actively enraging me. I would have a bad morning and then a bad day, because I would wake up and immediately get angry at the world.
So I bought a CD player. I wake up to Enya now.
I think maybe, in January, I'll be able to go back to listening to NPR in the morning.
Thanks, President-Elect Obama. Thanks for not being a zombie.
